Q & A With Artist Alyce Moon…
We first met Alyce Fuggle, aka Alyce Moon, when she began working for our Bondi and Paddington boutiques four years ago. After being a valuable member of our design team for some time, she is now Tigerlily’s resident artist. Alyce epitomises the ultimate Tigerlily girl – radiating individuality, health and happiness. She’s also obsessed with the beach, tiny bikinis and her two kittens, Tibi and Texas. We visited her beautifully decorated coastal home to discuss her artwork and all things Tigerlily.
Tell us about your upbringing… Have you always been creative?
As far back as I can remember I have let my creativity and imagination run wild. I grew up on a farm on the mid North Coast of NSW, with a large orchard of fruit trees and lots of animals. My younger sister, Lucy, and I weren’t allowed to watch much TV so we spent our time wandering in vast paddocks and playing in our tree house. I also spent hours after school reading at my mum’s bookstore, which fueled my imagination and creativity.

What inspires and influences your artwork?
I have always been drawn to beautiful textiles and architecture from different cultures and time periods, such as Islamic and Indian or paisleys from the 1970’s. I use the beautiful intricate patterns as inspiration for my work. Australia’s beautiful coastline and beach culture also greatly inspires my work.

Being the long-time Tigerlily that you are, what is your interpretation of Tigerlily style?
Tigerlily style is natural and effortless. The beauty of the Tigerlily girl stems from simplicity, an effortless sensuality, a feeling of fitting into her environment – whether that be barefoot on the sand in Byron Bay or on a busy street in Paris.

Tell us what your favourite pieces in your wardrobe are at the moment?
Now the weather is cooler, I love to layer dresses with big woolly jumpers and leather boots. My Tigerlily Vienne Slip Maxi Dress is getting regular wear at the moment, teamed with oversized jumpers that I have found at Op-Shops. I am also in love with Tigerlily’s red paisley Pashmina ensemble out this month.

What is your all-time favourite Tigerlily bikini?
I love mixing and matching, and rarely wear a bikini that is of the same set. My all time favourite top is a neutral crochet number from Tigerlily circa 2011, teamed with a pair of verrrry skimpy paisley bottoms. I am all for the skimpier Brazilian cuts. Tigerlily Havana or Giselle bottoms are a favourite.

Which three items would you pack for an adventure on ‘The Bikini Trail’?
A little Tigerlily bikini, a relaxed paisley sundress and some good tunes… What more could you need?
La Ponche Top & La Ponche Tube Skirt
Where do you see yourself creatively in 5 years from now?
Making a living designing and art making in a little beach shack on the coast with a big sun-drenched studio. I would love to collaborate with other creatives on projects too.
